Law Practice:
Kurt R. Klaus is an attorney based in Washington, DC.  He was formerly located in Nashville, Tennessee.  His practice generally includes providing legal services and business advice to individuals and companies operating in the media, entertainment, and IT sectors.  Kurt counsels clients on matters involving copyrights, trademarks, contracts, the Internet, music, motion pictures, radio, and corporations issues.  His clients include television and film production companies, television and film producers and directors, radio content producers, screenplay writers,  record labels, musical artists and writers, graphic artists, legitimate stage (theatre) companies, photographers, book authors, poets, on-screen talent, entrepreneurs, and web designers and developers.

Creative Community Involvement:
Kurt has a long history of substantive service to the creative community:  Board of Directors, Women In Film and Video, Washington, DC; a member of The Copyright Society of the United States; pro bono volunteer, Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts (WALA);  DC Bar Arts, Entertainment, Media and Sports & Intellectual Property Law Sections; two years as Creative Forum's Chairman of the Board, Nashville, Tennessee; two years as the Nashville Film and Video Association's President, Nashville, Tennessee; a member of The Copyright Society of the South; a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS); a member of the Nashville Bar Association's Intellectual Property and Entertainment and Sports Law Committees; and, an adjunct professor at Middle Tennessee State University (where he taught Copyright Law and Legal Problems in the Recording Industry) and Watkins Film School (where he taught Entertainment Law).  Kurt often presents at seminars, speaking to entertainment and intellectual property issues.  He also writes short articles for trade newsletters.

Education:
Kurt earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from the University of Tennessee- Knoxville, School of Law.  He secured a Master of Science (M.S.) Degree in Mass Communications (Advertising) from The University of Tennessee- Knoxville.  He also earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Recording Industry Management-business management emphasis- from Middle Tennessee State University.

History:
Prior to practicing law, Kurt was a television and film producer, line producer, and assistant director (over 140 projects).  He also owned a small recording studio and worked as an on-air radio personality.  His productions have received various local, regional, and national awards.
